"Artist statements are an interesting concept to me. Someone asks you to describe your work to him or her and unless you have it down to a scientific procedure it is like explaining a single paint drop on a Pollock piece, but I'll give it a go.
I view my photos as organic pieces; they exist with or without me. The moments that I have captured would have happened regardless of my camera's ability to steal it from transience. I do not pretend to have a statement for mankind through my photos ... they are merely a moment in time encompassed by my mind and recreated through my camera.
Photography is my attempt to seize those moments, while simultaneously trying to extend their existence in the waking world. The act of photographing forces my mind into a meditative-like state. My images reject the fixed details of my environment. I prefer to encapsulate the entirety of my surroundings.
As far as my methods go ... I choose to maintain a homeostatic relationship between film and digital imaging. I feel as though eliminating one medium could eliminate my chances of experiencing a new element of photography, which in turn limits my growth within this art form.
As I sit and reflect on images that I have taken I can most certainly detect a pattern. I find that I gravitate toward the coLor, the emOtioN and the sOunD of images. The abundance of cool blues and intense reds evoke a sense of heightened relaxation.
The vibration that the color spectrum creates gives stationary images life. These vibrations within the imagery move the viewer to a place once known to them. As the viewer reflects on this 'familiar place or feeling' I hope to transcend coLoR, emOtioN and sOunD into their thoughts, even for just a moment in time."
